Position Description
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
 
To establish and maintain an educational program through appropriate programming for residential students who are out of school and through after school tutoring.  Position is part time; up to 24 hours a week.
 
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and implement remedial programs with students who are out of school, using the student’s classroom materials where available. This position will provide programming for up to 12 residents residing at Crisis Center.
  • Provide tutoring after school hours to assist students in performing school work. This position will work as a team with a youth counselor at all times and teach in the sight of a youth worker at all times.
  • Work collaboratively with other educational and agency professionals.
  • Develop resources to provide supplemental materials for teaching or tutoring.
  • Demonstrate in daily activities the belief that people have the ability to grow and change.
  • Establish and maintain limits and helping role of practitioner and intervene appropriately to address the needs of the persons served or other family members.
  • Effectively document information and records required by agency. Respects client confidentiality.
 
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Other duties as directed by the supervisor
  • Complete training necessary to perform position consistent with program and staff development plans.
 QUALIFICATIONS
  • College degree with experience in education or training preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance that meets agency policy.
  • Ability to interact with clients with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural differences in the service population.
  • Knowledge of tutoring or classroom education.
  • Knowledge of childcare practices, developmental issues and group processes and practices, which are important to the position.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skills related to theory and practices for emotionally disturbed children preferred.
  • Personal characteristics and experiential background.
  • Necessary stamina and temperament to work with children and youth (birth-18 years of age) who are experiencing crisis and/or emotional and/or behavior disorders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Knowledge in child abuse and neglect, child development, behavior management, verbal and physical intervention preferred.
  • Ability to: communicate with children, parents, police, CPS and staff.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with team members.
  • Patient and emotionally stable.
  • Non-judgmental, positive attitude.
  • Flexibility, creativity, and dependability.
  • Ability to appropriately handle confidential information.
  • Ability to understand and consistently implement policies and procedures of the Agency.
  • Ability to provide appropriate care and supervision of youth at all times.
  • Ability to interact and work cooperatively and effectively with other personnel and students.
